Glossary Of terms relating to web design                                

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) – Is the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a web page in a search engine‘s “natural” or un-paid (“organic“) search results. Wikipedia

Bounce Rate – (sometimes confused with exit rate)[1] is an Internet marketing term used in web traffic analysis. It represents the percentage of visitors who enter the site and “bounce” (leave the site) rather than continue viewing other pages within the same site. Wikipedia

Web Authority – Is a combination of the amount of people your content reaches on the web, and how interconnected your social media accounts are.

Googlebots –  is the search bot software used by Google, which collects documents from the web to build a searchable index for the Google Search engine. Wikipedia

Backlinks –  also known as incoming links, inbound links, inlinks, and inward links, are incoming links to a website or web page. In basic link terminology, a backlink is any link received by a web node (web page, directory, website, or top level domain) from another web node.[1] Wikipedia

Web Browsers –  (commonly referred to as a browser) is a software application for retrieving, presenting and traversing information resources on the World Wide Web. Wikipedia

Browser Index – The index.dat file is a database file. It is a repository of information such as web URLs, search queries and recently opened files. Its purpose is to enable quick access to data used by Internet Explorer. For example, every web address visited is stored in the index.dat file, allowing Internet Explorer to quickly find Autocomplete matches as the user types a web address. Wikipedia

Foot Traffic – The amount of visitors you receive on your website.

Sight Mapping –  A site map (or sitemap) is a list of pages of a web site accessible to crawlers or users. It can be either a document in any form used as a planning tool for Web design, or a Web page that lists the pages on a Web site, typically organized in hierarchical fashion. Wikipedia

Key Word Density –  is the percentage of times a keyword or phrase appears on a web page compared to the total number of words on the page. In the context of search engine optimization keyword density can be used as a factor in determining whether a web page is relevant to a specified keyword or keyword phrase. Wikipedia

Algorithms – In mathematics and computer science, an algorithm (Listeni/ˈælɡərɪðəm/ AL-gə-ri-dhəm) is a step-by-step procedure for calculations. Algorithms are used for calculation, data processing, and automated reasoning Wikipedia

Meta ContentMeta Content Framework (MCF) is a specification of a content format for structuring metadata about web sites and other data. Wikipedia

URL – A uniform resource locator (abbreviated URL; also known as a web address, particularly when used with HTTP) is a specific character string that constitutes a reference to a resource. Most web browsers display the URL of a web page above the page in an address barWikipedia
